Global Travel Plus members, Craig* and his wife Sophie* were traveling to Costa Rica to celebrate their upcoming wedding anniversary. During a boat ride through the open waters, Craig started experiencing severe chest pain and was having difficulty breathing. Sophie called the ambulance and Craig was immediately taken to the local hospital.

Upon arriving, Craig and Sophie quickly realized the language barrier between them and the hospital staff. Sophie contacted Global Travel Plus to assist them with this situation and help them with the paperwork required to gain admission into a foreign hospital. The medical coordinator explained the services to Sophie and arranged for the medical paperwork to be transferred from the family doctor to the local hospital.

The doctors diagnosed that Craig was suffering from a Pulmonary Embolism and would not be able to travel for a few days. Throughout his stay at the foreign hospital, Global Travel Plus coordinators kept in constant contact and monitored Craig’s condition on a daily basis. Due to his condition, Craig had to miss his original flight back home and was worried that he would not be home in time to celebrate his anniversary with his family.

However, when the doctors cleared Craig for traveling, medical coordinators arranged for a first-class flight back home for him. They arranged luggage assistance, wheelchair assistance, and ground transportation on both ends so that the couple can focus solely on recovery. Upon returning home, they could not believe that they were able to return back in time for the anniversary celebration and got to spend the special day with the rest of their family.
